Narrative

SIL members live on their own or with a roommate. They get between 2 to 15 hours of support a week. LIFE communities feature a common area, fitness facilities, weekly social activities, and emergency on-call staff.

Candidates for a SIL community are at least 19 years of age. They have a history of intellectual disability (ID) or autism (ASD). Members learn:

  • independent living skills
  • home-alone safety
  • cooking
  • cleaning
  • manage money
  • self-medicate with minimal support

The successful SIL person will be involved in a work or volunteer job. They participate in LIFE social and fitness activities. Our professional staff will help to develop independent living skills and a healthy lifestyle with support services. We do this in partnership with families. We honor the human rights of the adults we serve.

The SIL community is not a good fit for people with a history of:

  • illegal behavior
  • alcohol/ substance abuse
