Organization Narrative

Southeast Center for Independent Living (SCIL)is a community based, consumer controlled, cross-disability independent living center. SCIL was first incorporated in 1986 to service the need for independent living services, advocacy, and public awareness for all people who have disabilities in the southeast region of the state. Consumers who actively participate in our services aspire to higher levels of independence through consciousness raising and peer role modeling.

We serve people with all types of disabilites in the greater Fall River and New Bedford area.

In addition, SCIL, Inc. provides emergency assistance on a limited basis; a Housing Registry; an Information & Referral Database; Communications Assistance; Outreach to special interest groups and organizations; PCA referral services; and Title VII Part B services for equipment or services enabling individuals to maintain their independence.

Eligibility/Criteria/Enrollment

Individuals must have a disability, must be able to make decisions about life and benefit from the services provided. Enrollment consists of going through the intake process.
