Tourette Syndrome (TS)

Tourette Syndrome (TS)

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a neurological multiple tic disorder. It begins between the ages of 2 and 16, and lasts a lifetime. Tics are characterized by involuntary, rapid, sudden movements or vocalizations that occur repeatedly in the same way. Tics are experienced as an irresistible urge, like sneezing, and must eventually be expressed. Tics are expressed in three major areas of the body. They can affect a person motorically, such as rapid eye movement or twitching of the face; vocally, such as repeated throat clearing; and/or behaviorally, in the form of a learning disability or an attention deficit disorder. The symptoms of TS can change frequently in location of the body, disappear then reappear at a later time, and/or increase or decrease in intensity.
